This programme is designed to equip technical workers with the skills necessary to work in the areas of projects and plant operations within the manufacturing sector. The programme will empower staff with the skills necessary to maximise the profitable operational performance of utilities within this environment. Enterprises seeking efficiencies and competitive advantage from the way in which they effectively manage their processes, technologies and physical assets from inception to disposal depend on technical workers with a more versatile skill-set to address the immediate and long-term demands which this work environment places upon them. This programme offers a foundation for the management of physical assets in general and of utilities in particular. Students will understand the tools used to operate, maintain and upgrade assets cost-effectively and understand how active systems are monitored and maintained. The fundamentals of Projects, Operations and Quality Management will be studied as well as Qualitative Methods needed to enable decision making and to develop the student’s capacity to practice critical thinking. The utility module provides an overview of the plant, energy and cost management requirements for a modern lean production facility. An overview of compliance with regulatory requirements in relation to the product, health and safety and environment will also be provided in this module.
